Thomas Choi
Director
Thomas Choi is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Asia Broadcast Satellite Limited (ABS). He is a satellite entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in the Satellite and Aerospace industry.
Prior to ABS, Tom founded Speedcast Ltd, a valued added satellite service company that is a joint venture between AsiaSat. He spent more than five years as a business development executive at Hughes Communications International, and served as a technical staff member at Rockwell International.
He has a MBA and B.S. in Aerospace Engineering both from the University of Southern California.
Willy Chow
Director
Willy Chow is the Chief Commercial Officer of Asia Broadcast Satellite. He has worked with ABS since the inception of the company in October 2006. Willy has over 20 years of experience in the satellite, telecommunication and IT industry.
Prior to ABS, Mr. Chow was the Senior Director, Strategic Investments for Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) and served as a Director of the Board and Executive Vice President, Corporate Development for Speedcast Ltd.
Willy is a CFA charter holder and holds a MBA from the University of London and a BSc degree in Electrical Engineering, University of Toronto.
Alex Emery
Director
Alex is a partner and Co-Head of Asia at Permira, a global private equity firm that advises funds with a committed capital of approximately €20 billion.
He has worked on a number of transactions at Permira including Arysta LifeScience, Cortefiel, DinoSol Supermercados, Galaxy Entertainment Group, Holmes Place and New Look.
Prior to joining Permira, Alex spent five years at McKinsey & Company in London. He was previously a Business Analyst for Braxton Associates and began his career at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Osaka, Japan, where he worked with French companies seeking to enter the Japanese market.
Alex has degrees in Political Science from Yale University, USA, and in European Politics from the College of Europe, Belgium. He also has an MBA from Kellogg Business School, USA.
Louise Park
Director
Louise is the Managing Director of Citco (Bermuda) Limited. Louise worked in a company secretarial role for several large multinational companies in London before joining Citco in Cayman in 2007; she took over responsibility for the Bermuda operation in June 2008.
Louise is an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and graduated from Nottingham Law School with a LLB in Law.
Richard Sanders
Director
Richard is a partner at Permira, a global private equity firm that advises funds with a committed capital of approximately €20 billion.
Richard is Co-Head of the TMT Sector and is currently responsible for building Permira’s technology efforts globally. He has worked on a number of transactions at Permira including Asia Broadcast Satellite, Freescale Semiconductor, Inmarsat, Intelsat, NDS and Wireless Information Network.
Prior to joining Permira, Richard worked for Morgan Stanley in London in the M&A and High Yield Capital Markets divisions.
Richard has a degree in Classics from Oxford University, England, and an MBA from Stanford Business School, USA, and is a Fulbright Scholar.
Nic Volpi
Director
Nic is a principal at Permira, a global private equity firm that advises funds with a committed capital of approximately €20 billion.
Nic has worked on a number of transactions including Asia Broadcast Satellite, Aearo Technologies, Freescale Semiconductor and Intelsat at Permira. He is a member of the Financing Group and TMT group within Permira.
Prior to joining Permira in 2004, Nic spent four years at Brera Capital Partners where he worked on middle-market buy-outs. Prior to that, he worked at Index Securities in Geneva and spent three years in the Financial Institutions Group at Merrill Lynch in New York.
Nic has a degree in Business Administration from Georgetown University, USA, an MBA from Stanford University, USA and lived in Japan for over 17 years.
Robert Wardrop
Director
Robert is the Managing Director of Belvall Investments Ltd., which advises and invests in small and medium-sized businesses primarily in the telecommunications and health care industries. He is also engaged in research at the University of Cambridge studying the debt financing of small and medium-sized businesses in Europe.
Prior to Belvall Investments Robert spent 10 years as Managing Director of Anschutz Investment Company, an affiliate of The Anschutz Corporation headquartered in Denver CO, where he was responsible for sourcing and managing European investments. From 2006 to 2009 he also was the Co-CEO of DAM Capital SA, a joint venture between Anschutz and Dresdner Bank providing credit facilites to mid-sized companies in Germany, the Benelux and the UK. Prior to joining Anschutz, Robert led business development and project finance assignments in North American and European satellite-related projects. He started his career in Brand Management with Procter & Gamble Canada.
Robert has a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) degree from Queen’s University in Canada, an MBA from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago, and an MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He is a member of the Global Advisory Board for both the Booth School of Business and the Queen’s University School of Business.
Samuel Wong
Director
Samuel Wong joined the Executive team of ABS in September 2012 as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Sam has over 25 years of experience in financial management and possesses a strong track record in corporate finance, investment projects and financial controllership. He is also experienced in the Telecom & Media sector and in emerging markets.
Prior to joining ABS, Sam held various senior financial positions including: CFO and EVP at the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing, Finance Director at Hutchison Port Holdings and CFO at i-Cable Communications.
Sam is a Chartered Accountant and holds an MBA from the University of British Columbia and a B. Commerce from the University of Toronto. He is a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Directors.
