ABS satellites provide unparalleled market penetration for regional, pan-regional and continental distribution.   ABS provides transponders in both C and Ku-Band for broadcasting service to media, broadcasters, and to telecommunications companies via a fleet of satellites (ABS-1, ABS-1A, ABS-1B, ABS-5 and ABS-7).   ABS currently hosts over 175 channels over the Indian Ocean region making it one of the fastest growing broadcasters of TV channels in the Asia Pacific.

ABS offers long term 24 x7 services and transmits media in all formats in MPEG-2 or MPEG-4, from Standard Definition to High Definition.  Services are carried in both Digital Single Channel Per Carrier (SCPC) and Compressed Digital Multi-Channel Per Carrier (MCPC) format.

Direct to Home (DTH)

With billions of potential viewers under our wide coverage, ABS satellites deliver the perfect DTH platforms for TV and Radio channels looking to bypass the process of securing carriage on cable systems. From 75°East, the ABS-1 Southern Ku-band covers Central Europe, across Asia, extends North to Mongolia and South to Thailand and to the far east of Japan. ABS has established gateway teleports for easy access to our high-powered Ku-band platform from Europe and Asia, with additional fiber connectivity extending our gateways to North America.

Alternately, at 146°East, ABS-5 Ku-Band distributes channels on its DTH platform over a more focused coverage that includes Coastal China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Northern Vietnam, Laos and the Philippines.

ABS offers a complete solution to interested customers, including:

• Channel Acquisition and Turnaround (T/A) (i.e. downlink from an existing satellite feed)
• Bitrate shaping and grooming
• Irdeto Conditional Access (optional) Statistical multiplexing on a full-transponder MCPC platform
• Common Electronic Program Guide for all channels
• Uplink to ABS-1 Southern Beam  or ABS-5 Ku-Band
• Extensive downlink coverage using 75cm or smaller antennas

Cable Distribution

ABS satellites offer an ideal platform for distribution of television channels to cable system operators across Asia-Pacific. Physical proximity to a number of other popular C-band satellites simplifies reception at cable head-ends.   Digital HITS platform operators can also take advantage of high-power, C-band coverage on ABS-1 and ABS-5 for delivery of large channel bundles. ABS technical experts can help design and implement complex conditional access and subscriber management systems.

Video Contribution

ABS-1, equipped with high-gain uplink coverage over Asia, Australia, Africa, and Europe; and ABS-5 with a more focused beam over the Asia-Pacific are ideal solutions for point-to-point or point-to-multipoint video contribution applications. Additionally, DTH platform customers can use ABS C-band capacity to affordably and reliably transport their content to one of the ABS gateway teleports for processing and uplink on our Ku-band beams. ABS has access to large aperture downlink antennas at most of its partner teleports, offering video contribution customers the ability to use high order modulation for savings on space segment requirements.

High Definition (HDTV)

ABS provides a flexible solution for the launch and distribution of high definition channels across the region.  We offer a comprehensive, integrated broadcast solution including content library management, HD playout, subtitling, encryption and transmission services.

From our prime orbital location at 75° East, ABS-1 and ABS-5 at 146°East have powerful beams, favorable angles and excellent coverage wherever news happens in Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Russia and most of Africa.  Trained ABS engineers will help to plan terminal equipment and suggest appropriate capacity booking to ensure success no matter how large or small the SNG requirement.
